1827-chapter-31

“Uh…” Struggling against the effects of alcohol and drowsiness, Xia Wan’an’s brain had completely ceased to function normally. She mumbled, “I’ll tell you when I remember in my dreams.”

After saying that, Xia Wan’an abruptly hung up the phone.

She placed her phone next to her and immediately closed her eyes.

Just as she was about to fall asleep, her phone rang again.

Xia Wan’an furrowed her brows, raised her hand to cover her ears, and tried to continue sleeping.

The phone continued to ring incessantly, showing no signs# of stopping.

Unable to bear it any longer, Xia Wan’an sat up, frightening the little kitten that had been staring at her. It darted under the sofa.

Xia Wan’an picked up her phone. Feeling too lazy to speak, she disconnected the call with annoyance. Then, she changed her ringtone to one that perfectly matched her current mood and put her phone on silent mode. She lay back down on the kitten’s blanket, hugging her phone, and fell back asleep.

In the same city, in a high-end residential complex ten kilometers away, a man on the twenty-seventh floor stared at his phone screen in disbelief for a few seconds after the call was disconnected. Then, he pressed the dial button again.

Once the call connected, the usual “beep” was replaced by a cute and playful unfamiliar female voice, “I won’t answer, I won’t answer, I won’t answer, I just won’t answer your call! I won’t answer, I won’t answer, I just won’t answer your call! I answer other people’s calls, but I won’t answer yours! Whether you’re in a hurry or not, I won’t answer your call. Let’s see how patient you are! No no no no, la la la la la~”

Han Jingnian thought there was something wrong with his phone. He brought it closer to his face and stared at the screen for a while. Then, as if questioning his life choices, he raised the phone to his ear. All he heard was, “I won’t answer, I won’t answer, I won’t answer, I just won’t answer your call…”

The next day, Xia Wan’an woke up to bright sunlight streaming in through the window. It was already noon.

She stretched lazily, planning to sit up, but a chubby and furry creature darted away from her.

She glanced at it and realized it was the little kitten that Song Youman was raising.

Feeling well-rested, Xia Wan’an greeted it cheerfully, “Good morning, Little Tissue.”

The little kitten turned its face away and ignored Xia Wan’an completely.

Xia Wan’an chuckled and chose not to argue with a cat.

She got up and was about to go to the bathroom to freshen up when she noticed that her clothes were covered in cat fur.

Did that Little Tissue rub against her while she was sleeping?

Thinking about it, Xia Wan’an angrily glared at the Little Tissue.

The Little Tissue maintained a defensive yet aggressive posture, glaring at Xia Wan’an while constantly wagging its tail, as if it were proud of its achievement.

Xia Wan’an gritted her teeth but decided not to confront a cat.

She picked up her phone and headed to the bathroom.

While walking, she glanced at the phone screen.

There was one missed call, three unread text messages, and several unread WeChat messages.

Xia Wan’an clicked on the messages and WeChat, but when she saw the missed call, she froze.

Han Jingnian… had he called her last night?

She vividly remembered the last time he had called her, which was two years ago when she hadn’t married him yet. When she received his call, she was filled with joy and nervousness. However, on the other end of the phone, he had calmly and indifferently said, “I can marry you.”

After that, he never called her again. Even on the day they were supposed to register their marriage, he had his assistant call her to ask for her opinion.

In fact, compared to registering their marriage, the two years he hadn’t initiated a call to her seemed like nothing…

Even though so much time had passed, she would always remember the night they registered their marriage. She had been so happy, excited, and elated that she couldn’t sleep almost the entire night. Early the next morning, she had gotten up and started bathing, doing her makeup, and changing her clothes. She had never cared so much about her appearance as she did that day. She had tried on almost all her clothes for that season, and she even wore high heels, which she rarely did.

With an hour left before the time they had agreed to register, she had finished dressing up. She checked herself in the mirror every five minutes and looked at the time every three minutes.

She eagerly awaited for Assistant Zhang, and when she finally received his call, she was overjoyed. Assistant Zhang told her he would be at her doorstep in five minutes. She didn’t care about maintaining her composure as a girl and hung up immediately. She ran to the door to wait.

When his car arrived, the door opened, and Assistant Zhang got out. He helped her into the car, but after she got inside, she realized that she was the only one in the car, and it was empty. She thought he might be busy and had sent Assistant Zhang to pick her up first. However, when the car drove directly to the Civil Affairs Bureau’s entrance, she asked Assistant Zhang in confusion, “Where is he?”

She would never forget the way Assistant Zhang looked at her after hearing her question—filled with guilt and sympathy.

And she would never forget his reply that day, “Mr. Han had some last-minute work and flew to Shanghai. He asked me to accompany you to complete the marriage registration.”

Six years of unrequited love, two years of marriage, and eight years in total, Xia Wan’an had never felt tired until now. However, she didn’t know what had come over her. When she heard him ask about her entering the Han Corporation in his office, she suddenly felt exhausted, the kind of exhaustion where she didn’t know if she could continue this seemingly endless relationship.

“Are you awake, Wan’an?” A soft and weak voice came from behind, snapping Xia Wan’an back to reality.

She turned her head and saw Ai Jiang, who had woken up at some point.

Xia Wan’an instinctively locked her phone’s screen and smiled at Ai Jiang, “Good morning.”

Ai Jiang replied with a simple “Good morning” and then pointed to the kitchen. “Are you hungry? I’ll make something for you.”

“Sure…” Xia Wan’an smiled and replied, “I’ll take a shower first. I’ll help you in a bit.”

After Ai Jiang entered the kitchen, Xia Wan’an finally went to the bathroom.

She locked the door behind her and, while squeezing toothpaste onto her toothbrush, she glanced at her phone once again.

Han Jingnian had called her three times last night… Could it be something urgent? Was it related to the Han family or her family?

After thinking for a moment, Xia Wan’an decided to return Han Jingnian’s call.

To her surprise, he picked up almost immediately.

“Uh… Well,” Xia Wan’an hesitated for a moment, then said, “Last night, you called me. Was there something you needed?”

There was silence on the other end of the line for a few seconds. “Where’s the water card?”

Hearing this, Xia Wan’an suddenly remembered that he had asked her this question last night, and she had replied, “I’ll tell you when I remember in my dreams.”

With that in mind, she replied, “Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot to dream last night…”
